The post of many words... (Assessment Three Post)

SO, you want me to talk about everything that I've done?

LETS GET THIS SHOW ON THE ROAD THEN!

Blogger:

This is blogger, you may recognise it from earlier this year when I made it. I have tried to spruce the place up a little bit, add a little bit of personality. I think it went pretty well, all things considered.

My blogger has primarily just been a place for me to ramble on about subjects that peak my interest. Hopefully the subjects that peaked my interest were of a passing interest to those that passed... But even so, I am very proud of my blog. It's only been a short time, but I really feel like we've bonded on a strong emotional level. But now is the time to focus.

Basically, I've added a number of new gadgets to the basic outlay provided by Blogger. Most importantly is my Fish. They are pretty cool... I've also added links to my Delicious, my Flickr and my csusap webspace. You can also find a link to Scandinavia in the world, which is a funny-haha webcomic that absorbed about seven hours of my valuable time one night.

Other than links there is a pretty picture of a dinosaur that I drew, IN PAINT. I'll get around to animating it eventually. Hold your horses.

Flickr:

When I first got a Flickr, I knew that I had to upload some of my old images. You know, the ones with the robot from my HSC Multimedia animation! But these were quickly followed by images of PANDA's! There is a long and complicated backstory to that, which I am not going to go into at this time. If you want more intel, then there IS a note on my Facebook.... I think. Following the selection of Super Panda images came the succession of Propaganda posters that I developed especially for my friends doing modern history in the HSC. The final few additions to the site are pictures from Bebo that I rediscovered upon prompting from my friend Liz. Good old Bebo... how we abandoned you.

There's not much you can do to 'customise' a Flickr account. I made some sets, tagged some images, that was pretty much it.

Delicious:

One again, not much you can do to personalise a Delicious account except for adding different links. WHICH IS WHAT I DID!
There are posts of St. Johns Ambulance (which wasn't really the most interesting website) and some other people's blogs. I added my own blog to the list later. Just for funsies. Other links include some interesting panoramic photography and the YOGIVERSE, an interesting youtube channel if I've ever seen one.

That pretty much wraps this up I guess... maybe I should just check how long this is...

Oh dear... that's quite a few. My bad.

Anyhoo, links now!

Do Not Adjust Your Set

OK everyone, the Time Warp is now over. Not the song, but the actual event that just occurred that allowed me to post so many posts over so many weeks in such a short amount of time. You should all just accept that it happened and move on.

MOVE ON, YOU FOOLS! D:

Monday 30 May 2011

Week Eleven - RSS

That's right, we skipped a week. We ARE in a time warp people, these things happen. Get used to it. Read the lower post if you don't get what I'm telling you.

RSS lets me keep track of what else is going on the internet! Basically, if I want to know what shenanigans Hipster Hitler is getting up to lately, then an RSS feed will tell me about it. Mind you, I'll still have to go onto my blog to find out... and I could just go to Delicious to get the links to the website. ACTUALLY, RSS is better because it not only links me to the website, it also tells me when new stuff has arrived, and gives me links to THOSE AS WELL!

And THAT is why RSS is so handy :D

Week Nine - FTP

File Transfer Protocol! People should use it. It's handy-dandy!

Basically, FTP lets you get your funky websites off your computer (where only you can see it) and onto the INTERNET, where EVERYONE can see it! Everyone ever! EVERYONE EVER IN HISTORY! Like... Genghis Kahn! That's very likely. I'd like to remind everyone that we ARE in a time warp. If you were unaware of that fact, then you should be reading OLDER POSTS FIRST!

Shame on you.

Week Eight - iWeb

iWeb! This is where things get interesting. Pretty interesting piece of software. Good if you ever want to make a website. True, it wont be the most original website out there, but it WILL look pretty. There are a whole heap of preset pages that you can make use of, and after you get a preset page, you can MESS WITH IT UNTIL IT LOOKS DIFFERENT!

Brilliant...

But yes, good lesson. Fun for the whole family! :D

Week Seven - MORE HTML

Basically... MORE HTML. That's pretty much it. I'd love to say more, but there's not much more to say...
Fun lesson though. AS PER USUAL. I enjoyed it immensely. I'll see what else I can think of to say.

More HTML, but this time we got to try out some CSS as well, which was a little different. Just a little though. Nothing special. Nothing to write home about, nothing to write blogs about.

BUT A FUN LESSON ALL THE SAME!

Week Six - HTML

This week we started looking at HTML in class. We used the Mac equivalent of Notepad, which is TextEdit. Basically, we all made some pretty darn impressive HTML websites the blew pretty much everything on the net out of the water. I mean, they were pretty damn good, they had different sized fonts and colored backgrounds and EVERYTHING.

Hypertext markup language is THE BOMB

Time Warp

WARNING: TIME WARP IN PROGRESS

I must alert you all to the fact that we are in fact traveling BACK IN TIME to a variety of interesting historical points (namely every lesson we've had for MPI where a blog post was required)

So everybody just calm down and go with the flow while we travel back through the weeks and revisit a number of really cool issues.

Hollywood

If I could, I would now like to lead a group thank you directed towards Hollywood. If I could get as much support as possible then it would be greatly appreciated, as this is an issue that I am very passionate about.

The reason that I have taken up this cause is because our future is uncertain. The current rate of scientific advancement frequently unveils new wonders, further inspiring humanity to search harder for increased knowledge. But what about when the time comes that our desire for advancement outstrips our ethics and we unleash something horrendous? What happens when we venture into unknown depths of space and discover something best left undiscovered?

Hollywood is taking steps to protect us. Thanks to Hollywood, a generation has been founded that knows to never flee from a Tyrannosaurus Rex. We have know how to recognize the telltale signs of Zombification. When faced by an evil mutant with powers over metal, we know to develop plastic guns. These are the lessons that Hollywood has taught us.

But Hollywood has not stopped there. Hollywood is constantly envisioning new scenarios, some of which humanity will invariably have to face. Their work is being constantly added to a great pool of knowledge that our decendents may draw upon when faced by new dangers.

But Hollywood has not only taught us to fight. Countless stories have arisen featuring intense philosophical issues, ranging from the rights of the clone and the mutant to the potential advantages and disadvantages of genetic modification. Issues that humanity must resolve on its own, collectively. So even as we learn of the dangers of viscous alien plasma weaponry and the weaknesses of our prehistoric ancestors, we acknowledge the dangers of complacency and pride.

So this is why I want to make my declaration of appreciation to Hollywood, and their continuing efforts to ensure the future of the human race.

RSS

RuSSia! It's a country! It's also irrelevant. Well, not really. They have lots of nukes. But they're irrelevant in an RSS feed sense. Dunno who brought them up. Banshees? (Sorry, in-joke)

In any case, the RSS feed is good in the sense that it means that people can read my words of wisdom by simply clicking a button instead of typing in a long and confusing URL, which wont work if you type 'www' in front of it (which is just plain silly).

In any case, RSS is SWELL :D (no, no picture)

Thanks Liz

I would just like to thank my good friend Liz Rehling for her contribution to my blog. Without the help of my erstwhile contributors, I would have one less post than I currently do. And that's something. If Liz hadn't posted, then there would be no posts, and then I would have nobody to thank and you would have nothing to read about. Really Liz, it's
of you. I appreciate it.

In other news, people who look closely at my blog may notice a newly added feature.

If you can't be bothered to look, I'll just tell you. It's a link to my Flickr!

Yes, it says Flickr. If it looks like it says... something else... then that's because of the font. It says Flickr. Take my word for it.

Byebye for now,
Tim

Establishing a 'Web Presence'

Blogger's finally gotten around to working again, which is always nice, so I shall take this opportunity to talk about my brand-spanking new WEBSITE!Quite why 'spanking' is part of that particular saying escapes me, but it gets the point across quite nicely.

A basic rundown of my website reveals the following:

Four Pages:
  • Home - which features a repetitious slideshow, a page hit counter and links to itself and other pages.
  • Welcome - Basically this page says hello and scares people with it's pictures of me. As a welcome page, that's essentially all it does, saying hello in a variety of languages and informing visitors of the functions of the various pages, much like I am doing now.
  • About Me - With it's witty title and an additional picture of me to scare people off, the 'About Me' page discusses the infeasibility of explaining my true essence in a single web page. It does however endeavor to enlighten the masses as to some general points about me in a pleasant and tactful manner as well as alerting prospective stalkers to the benefits of reading my...
  • Blog - Contains two entries (at present) and an archive (of those two entries and a picture). Filled with the inane ramblings of myself, it might be worth a read if you feel like learning a little more about me.
Anybody who feels like visiting can track the website down here, so you can all have fun with that!

Byebye for now,
Tim

It done gone broke

I wanted to write in my blog the other day, and do you know what happened? It didn't work. This area in which I am typing right now (you know the one) refused to load. It seems to be working well at the moment though... so we can continue.

I would like to apologize to Matt Barron if my blog isn't all that interesting. I can understand how one might come to that conclusion, I have just kind of rambled on about things (which I have a habit of doing in most cases.)

I was somewhat surprised to learn that I'm supposed to have been making weekly posts ABOUT CLASS. I've made some... reasonably frequent posts, but they have nothing in particular to do with class. Except last week. Last week did.

SO, about class. We looked at FILE TRANSFER PROTOCOL. The good thing about FILE TRANSFER PROTOCOL is that it lets me pass my assessment, which is just plain

Now, what FILE TRANSFER PROTOCOL lets me do is take my Iweb website and put it ONTO THE INTERNET. Just like this.

Byebye Everyone! :D

Classtime

We're in class at the moment, (you know who you are) and I feel that this is a good time to write a blog post. Matt Barron is busy trying to work out how to save all of our work... Bit late, all things considered. I quite like the pages I made, even though half of them still belong to 'Evan' who keeps on showing off with his Latin or whatever it is. Cheeky Bugger. I would be sad if I had to scrap all of my hard work.

Have no fear, people! Matt Barron has saved the day! We can save our stuff now, so Ill go and do that, and then it's time for byebye. Seeing as the passage of time cannot be expressed through the medium of text, it may come as a surprise to you that I'm actually done now.

Plog, the Plonk Frog of Blogging

Now, some of you may be wondering, 'What the hell is Plog, the Plonk Frog of Blogging?' The answer is this, Plog is something I made up in order to express the epic fail of the title of this blog post. It has been blogged (hence the blogging reference) and it is also extremely stupid (hence the plonk reference) and seeing as I didn't want to implicate myself, I blamed a random animal (hence the frog reference).

Astute bloggers may notice that the word/name 'Plog' is a combination of the words 'Plonk' and 'Frog'. If you were one of these people give yourself a pat on the back, then weep because you took the time to work that out when you could have been improving your life.

Now this blog about Plog isn't really all that special, so there is no way in which this blog post is
so I wont even bother saying that it is. I'll simply substitute in this picture.

Now that I have my compulsory swell reference, I can sign out! You were probably tired of reading anyways, I'm doing you a favor.

GOODBYE, Tim

Back to Blogging

Alright, so I have solved my technical issues (forgetting my password) and have regained control of my Blog! Huzzah says you all! *muffled huzzah*

Now, I have to think of something interesting to say, because otherwise you'll all hate me and stuff (which is bad) and I just happen to have come up with an interesting topic last night, people.

Now, I'm not too sure if it's just me or if everybody feels this way, but I have daydreams in which I become a superhero. Through some freaky accident or as-yet-unreported magic ritual, or ever just a latent genetic quirk that needs time to surface, I will have super powers, and it will be awesome. I am so far of the opinion that everybody has these daydreams, and if you dont then you should try it because it's cool. In fact, it's not just cool, it's
as well.

I also think that Uni students are at the perfect age to recieve such an awesome burden, because we're mature enough to know how to use it, but still childish enough want it and test it out. On the other hand, we've all come to uni because we want to be normal, we want to go through university and then get a job and do what everyone else does. If you went to uni then discovered your untold psychic potential then there's a chance you'll be seriously bummed out because you've just made a life choice and suddenly *BAM* you can't be an animator any more, because you have to be a superhero.

I think I've spoken enough now, but I just want to put it out there that maybe it's because I feel this way that I decided to become an animator. There's not many careers where you can take a dream like that and make it into something. Animation is the shizz.

BYE! :D

Assessment One

Here it is people, the big one, the BIG DADDY OF BLOGPOSTS. I mean, this is IT, this is as important as it can GET! SERIOUSLY!

Blogger

Here we are on my Blogger Blog, as you can see, there are a numer of posts upon it, as well as a number of other features. There are:
  • Seven (7) Blog posts (eight if you include this one), some of which are INTERESTING e.g.
  • this one and this one!
  • A slightly different template. I have created a geneally 'red and black' kind of theme (because those colours are cool) and also put a bit of a 'dinosaur' spin too it what with the blog name, the pic and the scale-background.
  • In relation to comments, I have commented on a number of other peoples blogs, for example Alice's and Aaron's blogs, which is mysteriously missing.
  • Tags... I have links to things? Is that what tags mean? I hope so, because I've got them! Just go and look!
Flickr

Flickr is the site where I post many a hilarious image for your enjoyment!

  • So far I have eleven (11) photos on my Flickr acount. Most of these relate to 'The Propaganda Files"
  • This link should hopefully take you to a page displaying three images that I have favorited via Flickr.
Delicious

Delicious is useful in that it keeps everything in the one place. From Delicious, I can access my Flickr, my Blog, the Master Blog and my friends blogs.
That, as a matter of fact, pretty much sums it all up. I do however have to type a sort of paragraph explaining what I've gotten up too through the course though, so here goes.

After creating my blog with the help of the eseteemable Matt Barron, I spent a little while messing with the layout. I checked out some other blogs, and whilst mine isnt quite and fancy as Andrew Saxby's I still think it's pretty cool. Initially, it was green and red though... which was a little weird. I added some fish, and a picture, and I felt very proud.

After blogger came Flickr and Delicious. There's not really much you can do with the layout there, but seeing as you can pick and choose images and links, it's still pretty adaptable. I've mainly put my own pictures up on Flickr, and mainly put my own links on Delicious, but they're still pretty handy.

All in all, I think thats about it, I think I've ticked all the boxes as it were, and I think it's about time to go about sending Matt Barron an email.

Have fun, Tim

Demoted

Now then, what this is is a short thesis upon hypotheticals and metaphors, not related to MPI104 in any way, which is a good thing because this is MY blog, not MPI104's.

Let us say that one is hired by a company searching for an individual to fill a temporary work availability. A previous employee has been forced to leave for an undisclosed time period, and it is made quite clear early in your employment that the said employee has a long history with the company, yet the time of their return cannot be foreseen. You accept these conditions because you like your work, you like the people and the atmosphere and the tasks you are required to undertake. However, your employer is frequently making reference to the employee who's role you are occupying, and you are well aware that you are in many ways simply a substitute. Your employer may appreciate you as a person, value you as an employee, but you are still just there because of the absence of another.

After a reasonable time period has elapsed, you hear talk the former employee may be returning. This information is quickly substantiated by your employer, who in their excitement neglects to note the fact that you are standing nearby as they celebrate the return of your predecessor. You begin to fear your job security, for you know that you do not have the same history with the company, or the same experience, or a great number of other qualities granted to your rapidly aproaching precursor.

What will happen? Will you simply be demoted to a less important position? Will you retain your post and watch as your rival climbs their way back up the chain? Will your employer attempt to provide positions for both individuals? How will that work out? Your role is thereby thrown into chaos by the return of a mysterious stranger.

Ground Control to Major Tim

You know when you get a song stuck in your head and you just CANNOT get it out? I think I've found a solution. Listen to Sam.

Now, many of you may not know Sam, he's an animating fellow with a Guitar. And if that's not enough for you, he ALSO has a keyboard. The pretty music he makes is more than enough to drive out any nasty David-Bowie-related musical maladies.

My other comprtriots in the labs this fine Tuesday morn include Liz, a lovely lass who works hard night and day in order to present Lightbulb Jane to the fearsome panel of animator judges on thursday. Keep up the good work Liz!

Over on my left you might find Megan, if you happened to pop your head in at this very moment. However, this is unlikely as it is currently a quarter past two on tuesday morning. In any case, Megan is quite a nice person once you get past all the fist-shaking and the playful banter. Be nice.

Other night-owls include James, a guy who always seems to be here... But he's a nice guy too. Works long and hard on his work, which is coming along very nicely in my opinion! I like the swirly smoke...

Then we have Lydia, and I'm terribly sorry if I've spelt that wrong, but I've never actually met a Lydia before. Very nice name, Lydia. Anyhoo, she's ALSO quite nice. You may be able to tell that we're racking up a pretty good nice to not-nice ratio here in the animation labs tonight, though I am keen to point out that there is ALWAYS a very high nice to not-nice ratio in here, because we're all such
people down here.

Now that I've got my obligatory 'swell' in I can continue. Next on my list is Bridget, a new friend of mine doing her third year of animation. Round of appluause for Bridget! And now one for everyone else, just for BEING here!

Finally, we come to the last of those in the room RIGHT NOW in Andrew "Saxy" Saxby, a fellow first year and dedicated devotee of the lightbox (as we all should be). He's a pretty ambitious fellow, but everything seems to be working out all right for him so far! Wish you luck, Andrew!

And that sums it up for tonight in the Labs! Well... today in the labs. I'm very sorry to all of those that couldnt be here tonight, feel free to comment and I'll be sure to thank you later.

TOODLES, Tim

My Fishies

First of all, I'd just like to thank Aaron for alerting me to the existence of fishies. I am thoroughly enjoying making them swim laps of my extraordinarily long fishtank! Mind you, I think I'm going to have to track down a nice background for them to enjoy...

Delicious Post

Very yummy post this one. But seriously, I now have a Delicious account from which I can track down a whole bunch of happy, handy-dandy links (most of which relate to MPI104).

In any case, all this posting is just

Oh, and for all those seeking to SEE my Delicious account, have a lookie right here

Flickr

I had to get Flickr as part of my MPI104 assessment, it was pretty confusing. Luckily, we had MATT BARRON to explain what on earth we were meant to be doing. And that is why I have now favorited a picture of a small child dressed as a pirate. There really weren't that many pictures of pirates. I also joined a group called Bazinga!

Safety Advisory

I think it is important just to point out that there IS no adult content on this blog. That was just a cunning ploy to test your determination. That, and I thought it would be funny to tick the checkbox under settings.

However, I think the time has come where the adult content warning is past it's prime, and I shall be removing it in order to facilitate the more active veiwing of my blog by the wider community. Which probably wont happen anyway.

Bye for now, Tim

My numero uno post

See, I'm a rebel. Anyhoo, I'm doing this for MPI104, just like everyone else. Especially Matt Barron.

He is swell!

Geddit?

SWELL! Like at the beach!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :/

Oh, and here's a website I like CSU Animation
